WebJul 17, 2013 · A childhood friend of Everton FC legend Dave Hickson, who died last week, remembered the star’s Ellesmere Port roots. Roy Jones grew up with Hickson, who passed away after a short illness on July 8, and spent his final years in Willaston, Neston. Mr Jones later became a journalist, regularly reporting on his friend’s heroics at Goodison Park. Hickson made his debut for Everton in September 1951 against Leeds United, with the Blues in Division Two for only the second season in their history. Hickson was soon a regular fixture in the Everton side. Perhaps the defining moment in Dave's career came in Everton's 1952–53 FA Cup run.
