Macrophage ingestion of the inorganic fiber results in a fibrotic reaction with encasement of the fiber in iron -rich material that is derived from proteins such as ferritin and hemosiderin. Webfer·ru·gi·nous bod·ies in the lungs, foreign inorganic or organic fibers coated by complexes of hemosiderin and glycoproteins, and believed to be formed by macrophages that have phagocytized the fibers.
