WebOct 26, 2024 · If only one tie rod is bent, it may be possible to straighten it out with a tool called a tie rod separator. This tool will force the two ends of the tie rod apart by applying pressure to either side of the damaged piece. A tie rod can be fixed in as little as one hour, but will typically take longer if it’s more complicated. Webover the tie-rod. Turn the front wheels to the right most turning position. There should be 1/8” to ¼” clearance between the two rods. The tie rod is hollow and if wear is excessive e the tire rod can be weakened and cause serious problems by bending or breaking.
